Thanksgiving Is Near!

The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe

Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving? It’s a great opportunity to eat until we’re catatonic, argue with relatives and give thanks for our favorite sports teams. Okay, so that’s a cynical view of the holiday. But aw, man, we do so love that tryptophan buzz! We all have our own Thanksgiving traditions. It’s hard to find a family that doesn’t do something on Thanksgiving, and that’s part of the appeal. We all have things to be thankful for.

In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is commonly, but not universally, traced to a 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest. Never a people to pass up a good party, Americans have been celebrating it ever since!
